Series Information
The Multiple Indicator Cluster Survey, Round 6 (MICS6) is the sixth round of MICS surveys, previously conducted in 1996 (MICS1), 2000 (MICS2), 2005 (MICS3), 2010 (MICS4) and 2014 (MICS5). Many questions and indicators are consistent and compatible with the prior rounds of MICS5, MICS4, MICS3 and MICS2, but less so with MICS1, although there have been a number of changes in definition of indicators between rounds. Details can be found by reviewing the indicator definitions.

Overview
Abstract
The Multiple Indicator Cluster Survey (MICS) is a household survey programme developed by UNICEF to assist countries in filling data gaps for monitoring human development in general and the situation of children, adolescents and women in particular. The current round of MICS is focused on providing a monitoring tool for the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), as well as for other major international commitments.
MICS is capable of producing statistically sound, internationally comparable estimates of social indicators such as the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) indicators. It is a flexible tool that is reasonably inexpensive and relatively quick to implement.
Background
MICS was originally developed in response to the 1990 World Summit for Children to measure progress towards an internationally agreed set of goals. The first round of MICS was conducted around 1995 in more than 60 countries. A second round of approximately 65 surveys was conducted in 2000; the third round was carried out in more than 50 countries around the year 2005. Overall, 59 surveys were conducted as part of MICS4 between 2009 and 2012. Starting from 2017, in total 71 surveys have been conducted or are planned to be conducted as a part of the MICS6 round. The detailed info and a present status is available at http://mics.unicef.org/surveys
Survey Objectives
The 2019 Serbia MICS and 2019 Serbia Roma settlements MICS have as their primary objectives:- To provide high quality data for assessing the situation of children, adolescents, women and households in Serbia;
- To furnish data needed for monitoring progress toward national goals, as a basis for future action;
- To collect disaggregated data for the identification of disparities, to inform policies aimed at social inclusion of the most vulnerable;
- To validate data from other sources and the results of focused interventions;
- To generate data on national and global SDG indicators;
- To generate internationally comparable data for the assessment of the progress made in various areas, and to put additional efforts in those areas that require more attention;
- To generate behavioural and attitudinal data not available in other data sources.
Content
MICS questionnaires are designed in a modular fashion that can be easily customized to the needs of a country. They consist of a household questionnaire, a questionnaire for women aged 15-49 and a questionnaires for children under the age of five and children age 5-17 years (to be administered to the mother or caretaker).
As in the previous rounds, the MICS6 questionnaires were developed through consultations with relevant experts from UN organizations, inter-agency monitoring groups, and the Demographic and Health Surveys (DHS) Programme. The standard global MICS6 questionnaires were field tested in a pilot survey carried out in 2015.
Survey plans
The survey was carried out by the Statistical Office of the Republic of Serbia, with the support and assistance of UNICEF, UNFPA, The Instrument for Pre-accession Assistance (IPA) 2018 and the Government of the Serbia. Technical assistance and training for the survey was provided through a series of regional workshops, covering questionnaire content, sampling and survey implementation; data processing; data quality and data analysis; report writing and dissemination.
Survey results
Results from the survey, including the national report, standard sets of tabulations and micro level datasets were all made widely available after completion of the survey. Survey results became available in October 2020. MICS results are also available through UNICEF's web site dedicated to monitoring the situation of children and women at http://mics.unicef.org. Results of the prior round of MICS can already be found at this site.
The MICS6 Serbia final report is available at the UNICEF Serbia web site, at http://www.unicef.org/serbia and the Statistical Office of the Republic of Serbia web site. Additionally, part of the MICS6 Serbia data is available online, within the DevInfo Serbia web site, at http://devinfo.stat.gov.rs/republika_srbija and the SDG portal at http://sdg.indikatori.rs
