In the Republic of Serbia, in the period of January-September 2025, noted was the decrease in live births by 1 337 i.e. 3.0%, and the decrease in deathsby 3 119, or 4.3%, compared with the same period of the previous year.
In this statistical release, presented are the preliminary data on live births and deaths after the facts of births and deaths are entered into the register books. The data are presented by the months of registration, i.e. entering the data into the Registers in 2024 and 2025.
Number of live births in the Republic of Serbia in the period of January-September 2025 amounted to 43 216. Compared with the same period of the previous year, when the number of live births was 44 553, noted was the decrease in live births by 1 337 i.e. 3.0%.
Number of deaths in the Republic of Serbia in the period of January-September 2025 amounted to 70 159, and if related to the same period of the previous year, when it was 73 278, it recorded decrease by 3 119, or 4.3%.

In the previously published preliminary results (until June 2025) on the number of live births and deaths, a technical error was detected in the territorial distribution of data on the number of live births and deaths by registration municipality. Namely, the municipalities of the Nišavska, Pirotska and Toplička oblast were mistakenly shown as part of the Region Šumadije i Zapadne Srbije, instead of the Region Južne i Istočne Srbije, to which they administratively belong. This discrepancy was reflected in the display of preliminary results for the Region Šumadije i Zapadne Srbije and the Region Južne i Istočne Srbije, but did not affect the aggregate data for the Republic of Serbia, nor the final results. The error has been eliminated and all subsequent displays will contain the correct regional affiliation.

Methodological explanations
The presented data on live births and deaths are collected by the monthly report of vital statistics (form Dem-5). The report is completed based of the data on live births and deaths after the facts of births and deaths are entered into the register books by the place where it happened.
Starting from 1998 the Statistical Office of the Republic of Serbia has not at disposal and may not provide available certain data relative to AP Kosovo and Metohia and therefore these data are not included in the coverage for the Republic of Serbia (total).
