Wholesale and retail trade turnover of motor vehicles and motorcycles (division 45 of the Classification of Activities 2010) in the Republic of Serbia in the first quarter of 2024, compared to the same quarter of previous year, increased by 17.9% at current prices and by 13.7% at constant prices.
When comparing with the same period last year, the wholesale turnover excluding motor vehicles and motorcycles trade (CA division 46) in the first quarter 2024 in the Republic of Serbia increased by 6.7% at current prices, and by 10.4% at constant prices.
Retail trade turnover excluding motor vehicles and motorcycles trade (CA division 47) in the Republic of Sebia increased by 12.2% at current prices and by 6.9% at constant prices in the first quarter of 2024 compared to the same quarter of 2023.
The following commodity groups noted the biggest share in trade turnover structure: in CA division 45 – motor vehicles (58.5%), in CA division 46 – food products, beverages and tobacco (25.2%), and in CA division 47 – food products and alcoholic beverages (35.9%).

Methodological Notes
Estimates of turnover of legal entities were obtained from three regular quarterly sample-based surveys relating to: a) wholesale and retail trade, and repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles (CA 45), b) wholesale trade (CA 46) and c) retail trade (CA 47). The sample comprises all large, medium-sized, and randomly selected small and micro legal entities registered in CA section G (comprising all of the three mentioned divisions). The estimation includes also certain legal entities that are not registered within the section G, as being their principal activity, but have parts dealing with trade.
The data for CA divisions 45 and 47 include the turnover of all business entities, legal entities and unincorporated enterprises and CA division 46 includes only data for legal entities.
Data on the turnover of unincorporated enterprises were derived from VAT returns, obtained from the Tax Administration.
Turnover includes value added tax (VAT).
Turnover indices at constant prices (real indices) are obtained by deflating the indices at current prices (nominal indices) with appropriate price indices.
Deflators for wholesale and retail trade of motor vehicles and motorcycles (CA 45) were obtained from consumer prices (vehicles, parts thereof, maintenance and repair of passenger vehicles).
As deflators for turnover in wholesale trade (CA 46), price indices obtained on the basis of the price index of producers of industrial products in total (for the domestic market and for export) and price index of producers of agricultural and fishery products are used.
The corresponding indices of consumer prices of goods (from which are excluded: water - from public utility system, electricity, motor vehicles, motorcycles and parts) are used as deflators for retail trade (CA 47).
Starting from 1999 the Statistical Office of the Republic of Serbia has not at disposal and may not provide available certain data relative to AP Kosovo and Metohija and therefore these data are not included in the coverage for the Republic of Serbia (total).
