Primary education,beginning of 2022/2023 school year

At the beginning of the 2022/23 school year, 505 247 students go to 3 206 regular primary schools. There are 63 230 new pupils enrolled in the first grade.

At the beginning of the 2022/23 school year there has been 3 206 regular primary schools in the Republic of Serbia, of which 1 135 central (main) schools and 2 071 regional school departments. A total of 505 247 students attended the classes, 456 206 in central schools and 49 041 in regional school departments.

The first cycle of primary education (1-4th grade) was attended by a total of 252 736 students, of which slightly more boys (51.3%) than girls (48.7%), while the second cycle – lower secondary education (5-8th grade) was attended by 252 511 students - 51.5% of boys and 48.5% of girls.

The total of 4 277 students with disabilities have attended classes in 163 special schools/classes.
