Interviewer instructions
Handwashing with water and soap is the most cost effective health intervention to reduce both the incidence of diarrhoea and pneumonia in children under five. This module is intended to collect information on handwashing facilities and the presence of cleansing agents in these facilities. You will begin by asking whether you may see the place where household members most often wash their hands. If the respondent agrees and you observe the facility, circle '1'. If there is no specific place in dwelling, plot, or yard, circle '2' and skip to HW4. If there is a place but permission is not granted to see it, circle '3'and skip to HW4. If the place used for handwashing is not observed for any other reason, circle '6' and skip to HW4.
